Ceramic coating can last from several months to multiple years. The realistic answer depends on the product type, paint preparation, installation, driving environment and wash routine.

Typical lifespan by coating type

Ceramic sprays are convenient and usually need regular top-ups. Consumer bottled coatings can last one to several years. Properly installed long-term ceramic or graphene coatings may protect for up to five years when the vehicle is maintained correctly.

What shortens coating life?

Poor bonding from leftover wax or polish oil, moisture during curing, frequent tunnel washes, strong alkaline cleaners, road salt and neglected contamination can all reduce performance. Lower panels usually weaken sooner because they receive the most road film.

How to tell when protection is weakening

Slower water shedding does not always mean the coating is gone; it can be clogged with mineral deposits or traffic film. Decontaminate gently and reassess. If the surface remains difficult to clean and water behavior does not recover, a topper or reapplication may be due.

Frequently asked questions

Does a five-year coating always last five years?

Five years is a maximum under proper preparation, curing and maintenance. Usage and environment can shorten the service interval.

Can I extend coating life?

Yes. Hand wash with a pH-balanced shampoo, remove contamination promptly and use a compatible maintenance spray when needed.

Should I recoat when water stops beading?

Clean and decontaminate first. Contamination can mask hydrophobic behavior even when the coating is still present.
